Vermont in the Fall

After Fayette, NY we stopped in Rome, NY to see Fort Stanwix NM. it was built by the British in the early 1700s and was the site of a battle in the Revolutionary War. Dana wanted to stop even though we couldn’t go in because it was shut-down. He still got to walk around it. Then we drove through the Adirondack Mountains to Burlington, VT. When we crossed Lake Champlain into Vermont we saw one of the prettiest sunsets we have ever seen.

The next day was make a wedding cake day for Ruth. We were in Vermont to see Ruth’s friend, Cheryl, get married. Ruth was asked to bake the cake. Since Magnus and Dana would just interfere with that, they went exploring. Don’t worry, another friend of Cheryl’s was there to assist Ruth.

Dana and Magnus headed out to the countryside to see some waterfalls and colors. They stumbled upon this Round Church, which was built in 1813. At the time the town wanted a building to be able to meet in, but none of the local congregations had a church building large enough. So five different congregations pooled their resources to build one church building.

Dana and Magnus visited three waterfalls that morning, and all of them were really pretty. The first was The Potholes. Magnus liked the little pool he could throw rocks into.

The road to Honey Hollow Falls was particularly beautiful. The falls were set in this pretty little canyon. Magnus now thinks to see a waterfall you have to have lots of rocks to scramble over.

Huntington Gorge Falls, was hard to see because it flows into a narrow box canyon. The rocks around it were very cool looking, with lots of strange shapes. And the whole morning we were surrounded by the beautiful colors of the Vermont trees.

Ruth made cake, frosting, and filling for the wedding cake. It was a long day. After the baking, we had to hurry out to the inn where the wedding was happening. It was close, but we made it!

Here are the finished cakes!

We were happy to be able to be with Cheryl and Jae on their special day! Magnus was especially happy to meet their dog, Roland, who came to take pictures after the ceremony.

After the wedding and the reception, we were all worn out. Magnus relaxed with a video at our room in the inn. The next morning we packed up and said our good-byes. It was a nice visit.

After leaving the farm we visited Moss Glenn Falls (Granville). This is probably the best known falls in the state, and they were neat. Right next to the main falls is Little Moss Glen Falls.

And in the parking lot was a cart selling wonderful Maple Syrup products.

Traveling the country roads of Vermont on a Sunday proved difficult. The leaf peepers from out-of-state were in full force. The little roads were lined with cars trying to get to the Ben and Jerry’s Factory and any thing that sold maple or cider. We did make it to two more waterfalls. Both were pretty awesome. Moss Glen Falls (Stowe) and Bingham Falls, with its emerald pool.

Magnus again enjoyed the scrambling, even to the amount that other people thought he would fall down, but he was much better at it than some other kids we saw. We also stopped in Montpelier to see the State House there.

This is our picture of Magnus in New Hampshire. We stopped at a rest stop as we drove back to Rhode Island. Magnus made sure to collect a map there so he could direct us back home.
