Coastal Camping!

We went camping on the coast a few weeks ago at Cape Disappointment SP. We used our new big tent. Magnus liked being in the tent. It was a great time to go camping, because there was no one else there, so we basically had the place to ourselves.

Behind our camp site were these cool big rocks. Dana climbed to the top of them.

We had sloppy Joes for dinner and peach cobbler for dessert. There was much more cobbler than we could eat ourselves, but the raccoons were sure to help finish things up.

The next morning we had eggs and sausage for breakfast. IMG_4084

Then we went for a walk on the beach.

There was a lot of cool driftwood littering the beach.

A Coast Guard helicopter was on the beach doing some training maneuvers. It was exciting to watch.

Some pretty things:

We stopped at Fort Canby to explore the ruins and the view of Cape Disappointment.

We also sat on Waikiki Beach to see all the drift wood and the view of Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. Magnus liked climbing among the logs

Then we walked to North Head lighthouse where Magnus collected some rocks.

We thought the door looked like a certain time machine:

Then we drove the van out on the sand at Long Beach (the longest beach in the world). Magnus and Ruth took naps.

We made sure to drive into town to see Jake the Alligator Man and The World’s Biggest Frying Pan. Dana had to convince Magnus that the frying pan was not scary so he would stand next to it.

We also stopped at Fort Columbia SP to look at the cannons and to explore.

It was a fun, quick trip.

Cape Horn Hike

IMG_3990

I had a chance to go on a little hike with my friend Brian. We went along part of the Cape Horn trail in the Gorge. There were several nice views along the trail.

We also saw part of Cape Horn Falls: IMG_3926

This is the last good view we had before heading back down to road level. You can see the highway round the cape in the distance, that is near where we started.

Some pretty flowers I found. The green one is one I had not seen before.

I also found this rubber boa on the hike. Magnus loves her and always wants to hold her.

Magnus Thor: 2 years old

SSPX9698

Magnus Thor is 2 years old. This is what he looked like the day he was born. Here’s what he looked like two years later.

IMG_3856

He is in the 89th percentile for weight coming in just over 31 lbs.

He is in the 100th percentile for height at 38.5 inches tall.

IMG_3320IMG_1463

Some of his favorite things include: fruit snacks, Star Wars, Legos, “dark” juice (purple grape juice), The Avengers, Batman, “space” (means “spaceship”), playing with friends, snakes, Nutella, “Ronis” (pepperoni), getting sung to, using the camera.

We think he is very cute, but we may be biased.

Magnus had lots of fun at his birthday (May 3). He really liked being sung to:
