Camping at the Rock; Hike to the Pool of the Winds

IMG_1631We finally went camping again. We headed out when I got home from work to Beacon Rock SP in the Gorge.

Grateful it wasn’t very crowded, we found a nice spot. Magnus immediately found the green silicon sup he loved so much from our last campout. Gideon went right for the dirt, ignoring the large blanket we put out for him.

In the morning we went on a little hike on the Hamilton Mountain trail.

We only went as far as the pair of waterfalls on the trail. Hardy Falls is the lower one and is a bit hard to see.

Rodney Falls is the upper one. And the top tier of Rodney Falls is called the Pool of the Winds, due to the fact that it flows into a tight little alcove. The water flowing in causes air to shoot out of the narrow exit. This time of year there is less water, so there is less wind.

The entire Rodney Falls, with the Pool of the Winds on top.

We had a great hike and headed back home in time to go to work again. So we leave you with a bonus slug photo:
