Oregon Coast Day 1: the rainy one

We began our Oregon Coast weekend by driving through Astoria and continuing south to Netarts (west of Tillamook). Our first stop was Fort Clatsop, the winter quarters for the Lewis and Clark expedition when they reached the Pacific. The weather was a bit damp, but that didn’t keep us from having fun. Magnus really enjoyed exploring the fort and its rooms.

We took the short hike down to the canoe launch site. Part of the trail is on a boardwalk, so I told Magnus about the “Under the Boardwalk” song. He loved it and continued to sing it for much of the hike.

Next we visited the wreck of the Peter Iredale. This time the tide was in. Also a lot of the wreckage was under the sand again.

In Seaside we found the Salt Works, where Lewis and Clark obtained enough salt for the return journey by boiling seawater for 5 weeks straight. This replica of the oven stands where the original did.

Ecola Point had a bit of a grey view, but it was still awesome.

The fog make this look a bit eerie.

We then made it to the beach house in Netarts for the night and Anton met us there. More coast adventures to come…
