Goose Creek and Lava Bridge (and huckleberries)

IMG_7996

Out to the woods we go again. This time to Trout Lake, WA and the wonders around it. Elina came on the adventure to see some fun geologic features. She was very excited to see this cliff above Little Goose Creek, exclaiming, “Columnar Joints!” That’s the basalt crystals that grow in hexagonal forms. They are pretty cool.

Here we are posing in front of them:

IMG_8035We wouldn’t let Magnus play by the cliff, so he had to content himself by drumming on tree stumps with sticks.

Next, I led us to Upper Little Goose Creek Falls. It is a bit of a boring name, but it is a pretty little waterfall. We tried to teach Magnus how to throw rocks in the water; he will have to work on that.

IMG_8108Our other goal out here was to pick more huckleberries. I knew of a few spots to go and we did find some (though not as many as the week before on Lookout Mt.). Magnus again contented himself with sticks and eating a lot of berries.

We also had fun exploring the collapsed lava tube that created Natural Lava Bridge

Here we are on the bridge:

We ended our trip in a small café in Trout Lake that makes fantastic huckleberry milkshakes and we even tried a huckleberry cinnamon roll.

It was a good day and we got more berries. Thanks to Elina for helping us watch Magnus so he wasn’t taken away by sasquatches.
