We had a free Saturday and it happened to be a nice day, so we thought we would go exploring. I have been looking for things to do around our area and found some neat things in the West Hills of Portland. The first was this awesome view:
From this spot we could see Mt. St. Helens looming over Vancouver. We could almost even see our house. Then we noticed that Mt. Rainier was visible peeking over the distant ridges.
The next stop was a small State Park called Willamette Stone. This had a nice little trail down a hill to the Stone. Magnus started at the top of the trail and called out to the trees. He then proceeded to do the short hike by himself.
He made it all the way to the marker and stood on it.
Thomas Jefferson came up with a way to determine property lines using a grid system based off a Meridian and a Base Line. The system was implemented mostly in the western states. The Willamette Stone is the origin for all property lines in the Oregon Territory and was placed in 1851.
It was a nice place to visit, and the forest it was in was very pretty.
We had fun up in the hills of Portland, seeing the amazing views and the crazy slopes they have built houses on.
