Seattle Adventures: Part 2; pastries, fiction, locks

For breakfast we ate at a little Greek restaurant where the hostess was super excited about Magnus. She brought him potatoes and a little toy. for second breakfast, we went to the Danish Bakery and got some very delicious pastries for later. Cheryl also got a marzipan pig, because they are adorable.

Queen Anne Hill again. We even got a picture of just the two of us.

Cheryl wanted to go to the Music Experience Museum at the Seattle Center. We have never been. It is a really oddly shaped building.

It even has the monorail going through it.

I was taking pictures of this colorful wall, trying to angle the camera so I could get the reflection of the Space Needle, when someone came to see what I was doing…

They were having an exhibit on the Icons of Science Fiction, so they had a lot of things from science fiction TV and movies.

How many shapes can you identify?

Magnus being Superman and being in awe of Captain Kirks actual chair.

Next stop: Pike Place Market. We had piroshky, saw fish being thrown, and a man playing “Memory” on a saw…

We all had fun wandering around the waterfront, especially Magnus.

To finish the day we went to the locks and watched a boat go through. I really like seeing how they use water to essentially make a boat elevator. We also saw a fish in the fish ladder, but Magnus thought that was the greatest.

It was a good trip to Seattle, but we were happy to head home to get ready for more adventures with Cheryl…

Seattle Adventures: Part 1; a fort, a boat, a bike in a tree, pho

Ruth’s friend, Cheryl, came out to visit from Vermont. She had a some training to do for work and she “had” to come all the way to Seattle to do it. So she extended her stay in order to spend time with us. We went up to Seattle to meet her after her training was done.

We took our time heading up by taking a detour through Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. We walked around Fort Nisqually, built similar to Fort Vancouver.

Magnus got to chase the ducks by a pond that was filled with turtles and fish.

We only had a short time at Point Defiance, because we were waiting for a ferry to Vashon Island in the Puget Sound. Magnus was very excited about the boat ride and kept saying “ME!…on a boat.”

Vashon Island has an interesting landmark: a bike that has been grown into a tree over about 60 years. Stories vary as to how it got there, but recently someone came forward and says it was his when he was young. It was a bike that he was embarrassed to ride so he hid it in the woods and told his mother he lost it. No matter how it got there, it is still a bike in a tree…weird.

Back on a ferry bound for South Seattle.

We found Cheryl at her hotel and headed out for dinner. There were a lot of Vietnamese restaurants nearby, and we had never tried Vietnamese food, so off we went. We all got pho and it was very good. Magnus insisted on eating his noodles with chopsticks and did better than we thought he would. 

 

We made a short visit to Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill, to see the pretty lights.

Magnus liked running around the park like an airplane. But then when we stopped to take a picture together he wanted to pretend he didn’t know us.

Snow Day!

Anton took the scouts snow camping at White River, near Mt. Hood. They made snow caves to sleep in and the next day they went sledding. We drove up to meet them. It was a beautiful day. Sunny and not very cold.

 

 

 

 

First we had to explore one of the snow caves they used. Magnus loved it. It was the right height for him. We ate some lunch and headed up the valley to the sledding hill.

We found Anton and his group in the bowl shaped area to the left:

Here Dana was able to take Magnus down twice. Magnus had a lot of fun.

It was a good day in the snow at Mt. Hood.
